Dr. Doyle Starnes, founder of Starnes Animal Clinic, retired from veterinary practice in 2017. He is a graduate of Texas A&M School of Veterinary Medicine and practiced in the Tyler area for 40 years.
He originally established a mixed animal practice with Dr. Don Wheeler before opening Starnes Animal Clinic. Dr. Starnes worked for the Tyler Zoo for several years, as well. Dr. Starnes is married and has one son.
Dr. Shirey was born in Quincy, Illinois and was raised in Canton, Missouri. He discovered his love for animals at a young age and knew his calling was in veterinary medicine. He began working at a veterinary clinic in Canton cleaning kennels. After graduating from Canton High School, he attended the University of Missouri in Columbia, where he received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree.
After graduating from the University of Missouri, Dr. Shirey returned to Canton and worked as an associate veterinarian at the local veterinary clinic where he first found his animal calling. Dr. Shirey practiced both large and small animal veterinary medicine at the animal clinic in Canton for 7 years.
In 2014, Dr. Shirey and his family moved to Athens, Texas to begin practicing at Morton Small Animal Clinic. He practiced mainly small animal veterinary medicine in Athens for 2 years before moving to Tyler to practice at Starnes Animal Clinic.
Dr. Shirey and his wife Heather have two children, Colin and Arie. When not working with his patients, Dr. Shirey enjoys golfing, reading, and spending time with family and friends.
Dr. Koinm moved to Texas from South Dakota, where she practiced as a military veterinarian.
In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband Brandon and her daughter Mia.
